SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin (D-Thousand Oaks) has selected Adelante Comunidad Conejo as the 2026 California Nonprofit of the Year for Assembly District 42. First established in 2018, Adelante Comunidad Conejo was formed to empower and advocate for Spanish-speaking families in the Conejo Valley and ensure they have a strong and respected voice within the community, particularly in local public schools.
“Adelante Comunidad Conejo represents the very best of community leadership and grassroots advocacy,” stated Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin. “The volunteers, families, and supporters behind this organization work tirelessly to ensure Latino families in the Conejo Valley have access to resources, opportunities, and a strong voice in our schools and community. Their dedication to uplifting others, building trust, and creating pathways for success is making a meaningful difference in the lives of so many families. I am grateful for their partnership and proud to support their continued efforts to strengthen and unite our community.”
With the arrival of COVID-19, Adelante Comunidad Conejo expanded its mission beyond advocacy and education to address the immediate and urgent needs of local families facing food insecurity. As schools closed and many children lost access to regular school meals, the organization mobilized volunteers and community partners to help provide food, essential resources, and support to families struggling through the crisis.
Today, Adelante Comunidad Conejo continues to serve as a vital bridge between Latino families and the resources, services, and opportunities available throughout the Conejo Valley. The organization fills critical gaps in language access, community outreach, food assistance, educational support, and family advocacy, ensuring that underserved families have trusted support and a stronger connection to schools, local programs, and community services.
Each year the California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits) partners with the State Legislature and elected officials to shine a light on the important work nonprofits are doing throughout California.
